Watch out! I have four teeth, and I leave a path of destruction in my wake! Simon’s top two front teeth are in,and he is starting to bite. As with most babies,it is mostly when he gets a little too excited, and we just have to calm him down. A few mornings ago,he and Aurelia got so wound up,he was dive-biting a teddy bear. Really funny! Aside from being excited, the other time he bites is when he falls asleep nursing – yeowch! A lot of times it is in the night when we both nod off in the chair. Talk about a rude awakening. Simon is such a good cruiser, and his almost-independent standing skills are getting very good as well. He can stand well enough to open cabinet doors and check out the contents, and he can open drawers and unload shelves with great ease. Yesterday,he went in Aurelia’s room and dumped out a rack filled with 4 wooden puzzles, including an alphabet puzzle, then he dumped her basket of stuffed animals and pulled a box of books off the the shelf on the floor. Godzilla,I tell you! This is that stage where all of the loose things in the house start moving up,up,up,and then once he starts having a little self control, they will come back down – if it isn’t time for the next round of babyhood – who knows! 4 Teeth!
Unloading the kitchen linens onto the floor! (I should totally have taken a picture of sister’s room, yesterday. Marcus thought she had been having a tantrum and throwing things around – nope,it was Simon!) He has this little brother thing down already. He’s been standing and cruising around with great agility since early in April. For the past month or so,he has been pushing anything that he can move around the house so that he can walk behind it. He can also walk while holding onto Mom or Dad with just one hand, and Aurelia walks him around the house by his hands a lot. He can stand for a few seconds at a time without holding on,but the sits when he realizes what is happening. Walking on his own can’t be far off… yikes! Simon LOVES to splash! Mommy has to change into her jammies after bathtime, too, most nights, because he and Aurelia get me soaking wet during their bath. He really liked the pool, but he was a little too interested in eating grass the whole time, too. We have to watch him like a hawk to make sure that he isn’t eating anything and everything he finds – grass, leaves, tiny pieces of paper, you name it,he’s tasted it. Speaking of eating,Simon is a big eater. He usually has cereal (oatmeal and dry cheerios),fruit puree, veggie puree, and bits of table food everyday, and he is still nursing about as much as he used to. He’s just so busy that he burns it off. We can tell when it is a “growing day,” because he takes nice long naps between pigging out sessions! Last, but not least, check out these curls!! His hair is really filling in. It’s sort of a strawberry blonde, and the ends are starting to curl. Love it! Simon’s upper teeth sneaked into his mouth…we didn’t see them till we held him upside down. No pictures…too difficult to take photos of a child being held upside down.

Simon’s First Roll Here are the paintings,up on the wall in Simon’s bedroom. Now that he is nearly 7 months old,it might be time to finally pull his room together a bit. Way to go,Mom!
I really liked this dugout exhibit that they have in town, right now. The paddles are just beautiful, and they had other items showing how the use fire and scraping tools to hollow out the canoes. Really cool.
This past weekend,we took our first trip to the beach with both kiddos. We are getting surprisingly efficient with hauling all the gear to and from the beach. Marcus went ahead and purchased a couple of umbrellas this time,so we had some shade without worrying whether or not the rentals were available – and ours have carrying bags with straps to make hauling them a little easier, too. So,after a quick picnic of leftover burgers from the night before,we headed out for an afternoon of fun in the sand. Marcus flew his kite. Aurelia dug and dug in the sand, made turtles, castles and holes. Simon played in the sand, played on the blanket with some toys, and also took a nap. Before we left the park,he took a mini-bath in the restroom sink to wash off the sand out of his diaper – live and learn after running Aurelia under the shower a few times as a baby. Holding a wet baby over your head isn’t the smartest move… those buggers are slick! (never mind the searing looks from the people around you and unsolicited comments about this “poor baby” who,by the way,is now NOT going to ride 1 1/2 hours home with sand in the diaper.) :) After some dinner at Chili’s (our girl likes the ribs – go figure!),both kiddos slept the whole ride home. The next morning,Aurelia comes into our bedroom and says,“Mommy, you forgot to put on my jammies!”
Simon has started doing some new things, now that he is 6 months old. He is pulling up!!,almost crawling, starting to get into Sister’s things, saying “Ba,ba,ba,” and eating veggies. He is such an affectionate baby. I love getting his wet, slimy kisses where he will pull your face to his mouth and basically wipe his open mouth back and forth on your cheek. Sometimes he makes a little sighing noise when he does it. Oh,melt my heart! This month,we also started (and accomplished,so far) sleep training. Mommy was getting a little worn out with having Simon sleeping against or on her every night, worrying about him getting too much covers over his face or nursing, literally, most of the night just to keep peace in the bed. So,the first night,he took about 2 1/2 hrs of fussing and us going in to sing to him and pat his back at intervals to go to sleep. The second night,it only took 25 minutes for him to settle in. He is down to more like 10 minutes, now, and he doesn’t necessarily cry all of that time. He is also only waking a couple of times between 8-ish pm and 8 am. WOW! Maybe we got the good sleeper that we had asked for after all! Attending one of Aurelia’s tea parties. He has to come as Mommy’s plus-one on many occasions while Daddy does a little bit of work on Saturdays. | |||||
